A prosthesis is fitted to a healed, stable residual toe. After an amputation, swelling takes time to settle and the shape of the residual toe changes as it does. Most clinicians want to see full healing before taking an impression, typically a few months after surgery. The first appointment is a conversation. The clinician examines your foot, listens to what you want, and tells you honestly what a prosthesis can and cannot do for your situation, including how it will look, how it attaches and how it behaves in shoes. You should leave this appointment with a clear price and no pressure.
The clinician takes a precise impression of your residual toe and the surrounding foot, measures the matching toe on the other foot, and carries out a colour match in neutral light, capturing skin tone, undertones, joint shading and nail colour. These records are what the prosthesis is built from.
Your toe is individually sculpted and cast in medical-grade silicone, finished with nail detail and surface texture, and checked against BioDigit's quality standard before it ships to the clinic.
Your clinician fits the device in person, checks the fit, colour and comfort against the standard, and shows you how to put it on, take it off and care for it.
